I tried to see you in another light
Reverse the motions that have brought us here,
But time is merciless, the truth is bright,
And your eyes, by mistake, confirm my fear.
The mem’ries. Tendrils, wispy and so weak,
Play slowly in the film seared on my mind.
Had I but known that moment was the peak
Would I have stopped, denied what I would find?
You sit so still, your hands a peaceful fold
Distressless, a familiar face gone blank
To tell me once you meant just what you told
Words that filled me, such empty words I drank.
I tried to see you in another light.
To me, a man who once wore only white.
No More White Clothes
